I'm on a boat

I have a story to tell. You wouldn't believe how many jokes I've heard about, "I'm on a Boat." this week. Don't get me wrong. It's a funny song, but it's pretty amazing when a song with so much swearing and inappropriateness is so well known. Take for instance, 5th and 6th grade church camp. We played a game this past Wednesday that was like The Price is Right. You were shown a picture of a valuable object, say the new XBOX 420, the 2009 Saturn Sky or... a speed boat. I ran around camp and had different sponsors of different ages hold the photo of the speed boat so I could take their photo. I wanted to see how many would say, "I'M ON A BOAT!" Even though I only did it to a few people, they all gave me the same response which was the one I wanted. They all knew the song. Today since their was no Sunday School class at church, I took six aged college students to Starbucks. An even three boys and three girls. Half of them were on summer break from college, the other half eagerly anticipating attending as freshman this upcoming fall. Though I brought up the song in a passing conversation, the jokes started to come out. Here are some of them.

Jeffy - You know if you took out all the bad words from, "I'm on a boat." It wouldn't be a bad song.
Jordan - Yeah, because the only words left would be, "I'm on a boat, flippy floppys, and mermaid."

Corey - We should do a spoof of the song so we can sing it within the walls of the church. You could say, "Churchgoer" instead of "motherf*cker."
Jeffy - Yeah, and it'll start out with me saying, "A free boat ride! Hmmm... who should I take? Corey, and.... T-Germs."
Me - Cool.

And the last joke was the one we all laughed and contributed to the most.

Jeffy - You know at my sisters wedding how they played like every popular song at the end? It was like listening to the top 40 on the radio. Jack Johnson, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat, Norah Jones. In that order! Why not add the rest of the top songs! Throw in some Katy Perry! You know how the girl playing piano was singing all those songs one right after another? I thought it would be funny if instead, that she just combined all of them.

"I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when were together..." "Cause you done done me and you bet I felt it, I tried to be chill, but you're so hot that I melted..." "I've been awake for awhile now. You got me feeling like a child now, cause every time I see your bubbly face, I get the tinglings in a sill place. It starts with my toes and it crinkles my nose..." I waited till I saw the sun. I don't know why I didn't come..." "So shut up and put your money were your mouth is, that's what you get for waking up in Vegas. Get up and shake the glitter off your clothes now..." "I'm on boat... I'm on a boat... Everybody look at me, I'm saiiillling on a boat..."

Meeting my past

Oh I have a story to tell. When I came down to Prarie View Christian Camp for spring break to help clean up the camp and get it ready for summer, I went to a spot I thought I remembered and found my name written on the sidewalk. A girl had written the year on the same square of sidewalk that my name was written. 1995. Somewhere near my name, I saw the name SETH. I thought to myself, this couldn't be Seth Caddell. The youth pastor that I had become friends with this past year and invited me down to the camp could it? So I called him over, showed him my name. and the name SETH that was very near my name. Sadly, he told me that was not his signature, but his best friend's from childhood camp days whose name was also Seth. Today, I met that Seth. He and his wife are the camp missionaries for the week who are going to Japan. When he came over to me today, he introduced himself and said, "Hi I'm Seth." I of course said hello and then I told him my story which was a bit shocking to him. It went like this. "You're Seth's old friend. This I know. Also, I know that your name is written next to mine on the sidewalk over there." He was like, "Whaaa... wha... what are you talking about? You... grew up here? That means... we probably knew each other! From way back then! That's crazy!" So here's my question. I call Seth and his wife a friend now. But can I call him an old friend? Can someone be an old friend if you don't remember them? Can you be considered friends with someone if they don't remember you?

The Number 23

I just realized as I was taking a walk that I'm twenty-three. I've been twenty-three for a few months but for the first time it has just now settled in. I know twenty-three isn't old, but as a kid, I remember people who were just over the age of twenty-one I found to be uninteresting mostly because it seemed liked I couldn't relate to someone that age. The good thing is I think plenty of kids are able to relate to me. At least I think the middle schoolers at East Evangelical Free can.

Yesturday

I saw a squirrel yesturday digging a hole in the ground about to bury the nut that was in his mouth when he noticed that I was watching him while I was taking my third walk for the day since it was so beautiful outside. I continued on my walk and once he realized that I was not after his nut, he continued to bury it. The important thing to point out is that I did not disturb the squrriel or disturb the resting place of the squirrel's nut. I am not David Crowder.

Drinking with a buddy while standing around in his kitchen

So I had a peach soda tonight which I drank out of a beer bottle that my buddy Seth gave me which he pulled out of his fridge and said, "Want something to drink? Water or instead... drink this!" It was cold and peachy just the way I like it and it was good. I might be addicted.

My first blog

Oh I have a story to tell. I never really liked blogs or understood them, but my friends have blogs and I have friends that read blogs on a regular basis and one friend who has a blog told me that I should get one. I told her I didn't think anyone would read mine if I had one, but she said, "Well, I would." So here I am now, writing on this blog. I don't know what to write. Usually when I don't know what to write, I just write down song lyrics that apply to the current situation. Like this.

"Maybe I'm wrong, you decide. Should've been strong, yet I lied. Nobody gets me like you... Couldn't keep hold of you then, how could I know what you meant? There was no friend to compare to... There's a MOUNTAIN between us! But there's one thing I'm sure of, that I know how I feel about you... CAN WE BRING YESTURDAY BACK AROUND?!!! Cause I know how I feel about you now! I was dumb! I was wrong, and I let you down! But I know how I feel about you now!" ....
